The Youth Centre Marttinen offers the great opportunities for group hikes in the forest day or night. It’s possible to enjoy nature in the surroundings of Marttinen for example by following the nature walk on Marttinen island or by fishing at the shores. You can also visit the most wonderful Finnish nature destinations nearby for example Toriseva gorge lakes or Helvetinjärvi National Park.
It is possible to choose hikes from a couple of hours walk to the whole day hike or you can even go to a night hike which is a particularly unforgettable experience with the atmospherical bonfire. During the hikes you can learn practical wilderness cooking skills by cooking a meal in the middle of the beautiful Finnish landscape. In wintertime snowshoe hike gives you a great opportunity to have fun and to enjoy nature. It is also possible to challenge yourselves as a group by solving the nature-related tasks during the forest escape.
The aim of the programs is to get to know various ways of travelling in the forest and to build group and cooperation skills.
We learn practical wilderness cooking skills in the surroundings of Marttinen by cooking a meal on a bonfire.

We wander in the beautiful landscape near Lake Helvetinjärvi and see the Helvetinkolu rock crevice up close. There are plenty of possible routes, meaning each group can find one to suit them. At the end of the hike, we have some outdoor lunch together.

We go into the forest in the middle of the night. We sleep in group tents. You can also bring your own shelter. In the morning, we wake up with the cockerel and go to have breakfast in Marttinen. A night hike is an unforgettable experience!

We follow the nature walk on Marttinen island. The route goes through the forest and a traditional village. When you are guided on the nature walk, you get new perspectives on how to enjoy nature. You can also learn about the nature of Marttinen island by following the signs and thinking tasks for free with your own teacher or group leader.

Get to know rod-fishing equipment and lures and go fishing at nearby shores or on a boat. In spring, more fishing is done with lures from boats while in autumn the emphasis is on rod-fishing. In winter, ice-fishing is done, when the ice conditions allow. Who will get the biggest catch? In winter, there is a charge for transport. The distance from Marttinen is 10 km.

We go on a snowshoe hike in the area around Marttinen to the Toriseva gorge lakes or the Lake Helvetinjärvi National Park. Learning to walk in snowshoes is easy and will allow you to enjoy nature in winter. Differences in height, snowy conditions and the walking speed bring challenges for people with all kinds of challenges and aims. On hikes of over three hours, we make lunch outdoors on the hike.
